Description
Are you a landscape crew foreman ready to level up and manage multiple teams? Or maybe you're crushing it in retail management (garden center, nursery, home improvement) but tired of dealing with the general public and ready to build things instead?
We're looking for someone who:
- Has led a landscape crew OR managed a retail team (horticulture/outdoor living preferred)
- Wants variety each day - interior tropical plants, exterior seasonal containers, living walls, AND holiday décor
- Is ready to supervise 3-4 small crews (2-3 people each) while still getting hands-on in the field
- Loves solving problems, coordinating logistics, and making sure things get done right
- Wants year-round work
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
ABOUT OAKLAND GREEN INTERIORS
We're a commercial plant services company in Columbus, Ohio (part of the Oakland Nursery family - 40+ years in business). We transform commercial spaces through interior plantscapes, exterior seasonal containers, living walls, moss art, and custom holiday décor for offices, hotels, healthcare facilities, and retail clients.
This isn't traditional landscape work - no digging foundation plantings or laying patios. We install beautiful plant displays indoors and out, maintain them, and swap them seasonally. We install gorgeous holiday decor to celebrate the season. It's creative, diverse, and less physically demanding than residential landscape construction.
THE ROLE
You'll manage our installation operations - supporting 3-4 small crews (including leading one yourself), coordinating projects, and making sure everything runs smoothly. You'll work closely with our experienced team who knows our clients, our systems, and our standards inside and out.
What you'll actually do:
- Lead one crew yourself while supervising 2-3 other small installation teams
- Run weekly team meetings - assign crews to jobs, review priorities, solve problems
- Work in the field 70-80% of the time doing actual installations (plants, containers, living walls, holiday décor)
- Coordinate logistics across multiple job sites - who's going where, what materials they need, what equipment
- Conduct site visits before big installs to scope out access, measurements, challenges
- Train and support team members - show them how to do things right
- Track project hours and materials
- Lead our busy holiday installation season (November-January)
- Spend 20-30% of time on planning, scheduling, and team coordination
- The balance: This is primarily a hands-on field role with some office time. You'll be on job sites most days, but you'll also lead meetings and plan logistics.
- The field/office split flexes seasonally.
WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE
Background-wise, you might be:
- A landscape crew foreman (1-3 years) ready to manage multiple teams and expand your skills
- A garden center/nursery manager who wants to trade retail customers for B2B clients and build cool installations
- A horticulture retail supervisor ready to get your hands dirty again but in a leadership role
- A landscape construction lead looking for year-round work with more variety and less heavy labor
Personality-wise, you:
- Love being in the field but can handle the planning/coordination side too
- Are flexible and adaptable - you pivot quickly when plans change
- Lead by example - your crew respects you because you work alongside them
- Figure things out - when challenges come up, you solve them
- Follow through - if you say you'll do something, it gets done
- Communicate clearly with your team, clients, and leadership
- Want to learn from an experienced team while bringing your own expertise
